LEADING JUNIOR STAFFA person might need to work alone directly under a boss initially, but it is not long when one is expected to work in cooperation with other employees, with the responsibility to oversee their performance. This immediately makes the person a boss. Everyone desires all ideal boss to promote happiness at the workplace, but when one is placed in the boss’s place the test lies in making the atmosphere congenial for everyone to be content and happy.

Just because you are overseeing the work of some people, do not look down upon them. They could be earning less and holding lesser responsibility than you, but each one of them is a unique human being and worthy of respect and care. The moment you accept them as a good human being they will respect you.

To ensure that every worker performs well, take care to precisely explain what he or she is expected to do, when and how. Good communication skills are an asset to make this possible. The workers would sometimes need to be directed to perform in a particular manner, and on other occasions some of them might even need support to help them understand how an activity can be done.

A workforce performs best when the morale is high. This happens when they see a leader in the boss. A good leader immediately wins their confidence because they know him to be fair and reasonable. Ensure that the working environment is comfortable. Make the work interesting to avoid monotony and fatigue.

A worker always respects a person who teaches him or her tp grow in the career. Teach them to work efficiently with lesser effort. Let them seek solutions to the smaller day-to-day problems. Encourage them to decide on issues that would not affect organisation policy. If things go wrong, share their responsibility so that one does not lose self-esteem. Making mistakes is a part of every job.

When a worker is working under your guidance, it is likely that you would be consulted at promotion time. Always be fair in your recommendations. Do not differentiate between people for any cause other than their performance and usefulness in the organisation.

When things go wrong do not lose your cool. Before you can say anything evaluate the cause. _Did you give clear instructions about what was to be done? Did the person understand what you conveyed? Did anyone interfere with the activity? If so, why and how? Are any external unexpected factors the cause of the problem? Were these not considered earlier? The answers to these questions would help you evaluate the situation correctly, avoid unpleasantness and also help maintain the level of motivation of the concerned workers.

A foremost need when working with others is to maintain discipline. For no reason whatsoever should discipline be compromised. In the event of a complaint, deal with it swiftly and fairly. Always be understanding, but firm. Let everyone enjoy your confidence so that they may always place their unstinted faith in you.
